Photographing All To Get Her at Greenfield Festival
When I got asked to photograph All To Get Her at their upcoming Greenfield Performance, I immediately agreed on coming along for the ride. I previously photographed a band on the mainstage of Greenfield 2018, but since then, I never was on a big stage. So it would be a good test to see how far I have come in all those years photographing smaller club shows in the swiss metal scene.
I prepared normally and while I was heading towards the festival, I asked them what they wanted me to capture. They told me to just do how I please – to get that amount of freedom at such a big gig is a testimonial for the trust these guys in my photography have. What an honour!
I accompanied the band from check-in until their last note on stage. Before the concert, I was trying to capture some calm moments before the energetic live set. Here are some shots of the preparation phase:
I also tried to capture a lot of fun images for the band to remember their time at Greenfield Festival, as this is a unique chance for a band like them. For example, I shot that one (no comment):

And just like that, it was showtime! Their set was 30 minutes long and I wanted to capture shots from on stage, photopit and then from the crowd. So I basically had around two songs for each of these locations. Quite the rush. But I laid out a strategy in order to get everything done. I’d start out in the photopit, then walk out into the crowd after two songs and then head onstage for their final songs of the set to capture their crowd picture. It felt like this was programmed into my brain. Unfortunately, I definitely missed out on some spectacular moments during times I was moving. I guess that’s just how it is during bigger shows.
Here are some pictures I took from the photopit:
And here is a picture I took from the crowd. It is all about telling people how big their crowd was:

From the stage, you are able to capture more unique shots, that are up close to the artist and are not the same shots that every press photographer gets from the photopit. Here are some pictures from onstage:
And then it was time for the final shot: their crowd picture. It is their only „must-have“ shot. I always got so nervous taking these. But right now, I just go up the drum riser and take them, no big deal anymore. Press the shutter and over and out:
